Prius – The longest chase

If you’re going to rob a bank, you’ll want a fast getaway car that won't quit on you. That was the insight behind 'The Longest Chase' — a four-spot saga designed to introduce the 2016 Prius.

After years of market growth, the Prius brand was seen as slow and built for people willing to suffer for their environmental principles. With that market tapped out, Toyota designed the new version with more performance, slicker looks, and even better mileage.

The Longest Chase was an entertaining, tongue-in-cheek way to make all the points without any MPG claims.

I was brought in by the CCO to execute and spent days breaking down the scripts into scenes and storyboarded them wall-to-wall for the team to critique and improve.

Lance Acord added only a few more frames to the ones I had drawn for his shooting board. His cut of the 60-second Super Bowl spot survived to air nearly untouched — something I hadn't experienced before or since.

The greatest lesson from this production: If you get to work with Lance, there will be little to do on set, and that feels uncomfortably foreign.
